JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE POST OF REFUGE SUPPORT WORKER.

JOB TITLE: Support Worker for Wexford Women’s Refuge

LOCATION: Based In Wexford Town – the work is Countywide

SALARY: € *, * –
*, * LSI per annum

RESPONSIBLE TO: Team Leader’s and Director of Services

HOURS: **APPLY ON THE WEBSITE**.5 HRS per week

Hours will be agreed with Wexford Women’s Refuge and subject to
flexibility where appropriate. NOTE: ONE/TWO NIGHTS PER WEEK ARE
REQUIRED.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POST:

To develop and implement programmes that respond to the needs of
children and women who are victims of Domestic Sexual Gender Based
Violence. The Support worker will work in partnership with families
and other organisational, community and voluntary bodies.

KEY AREAS OF WORK:

* To assess the needs of the women and children engaging with
Wexford Women’s Refuge.
* To plan, implement and review programmes for Women and children
based on an assessment of their individual needs.
* To be vigilant for signs of physical, sexual and emotional abuse,
neglect and any concerns regarding the welfare of children. To record
concerns promptly and accurately. To consult with the Designated
Person and take appropriate action in accordance with Wexford
Women’s Refuge Child Protection policy. 
* To work with women and children/young people in a variety of ways,
including group work, individual work and family work, centre based
and outreach work.
* To work in partnership with women and children/young people in
order to meet their needs and to advocate effectively on their behalf.
* To liaise effectively with families and other statutory, community
and voluntary bodies and to attend and contribute to reviews and case
conferences as required. 
* To keep regular records in relation to all aspects of work and
prepare reports as required.
* To gather information statistics and prepare reports as required,
including administration of databases as appropriate to the role.
* To identify and document to the Team Leader any unmet needs of
children/young people/carers/families within the service and to
participate in the advocacy work of the agency.

REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIC TO THIS POST:

* To keep informed of developments in the area of Domestic Sexual
Gender Based Violence including new methods of work, legislation and
additional supports.
* To offer emotional and practical support and information to
service users.
* To refer women and children to other organisations, groups and
services in the local community.
* To ensure that the needs of service users are central to the work
of the organisation.
* To accompany service users to Court and or provide access to
accurate information on the legal system.
* To provide information and advice on housing, education, welfare,
immigration and healthcare services where appropriate.
* To ensure that clients can be referred back into the Refuge for
ongoing support and information – if necessary.
* To engage in staff team meetings, training and supervision
provided by Wexford Women’s Refuge.
* To maintain confidentiality at all times.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

* Commitment to the delivery of quality services to women and
children who are victims of Domestic Sexual Gender Based Violence.
* Ability to act on own initiative and consult where appropriate.
* Ability to work under pressure, make decisions in consultation
with the Team Leader when appropriate.
* To be committed to adhering to best practice in the work and be
innovative and open to change.
* Flexibility and adaptability are essential for this post.
* Ability to form objective relationships with children, young
people, women, colleagues and other agencies.

EXPERIENCE:

* A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience of working with
vulnerable children and families.
* Experience of planning, assessing, implementing and reviewing
programmes with women and children.
* Knowledge and understanding of Domestic Sexual Gender Based
Violence

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

A recognised third level qualification (minimum Level 7) in one of the
following:

* Social Care/Applied Social Studies
* Social Work
* Family Support
* Youth & Community Work
* Early Childhood Care and Education
* Related discipline (Nursing, Psychology).

Note: this list can be varied depending on the specific requests of
the post.

FULL DRIVING LICENCE AND ACCESS TO THE USE OF A SUITABLY INSURED
VEHICLE IS ESSENTIAL.

GARDA VETTING IS CONDUCTED AND IF YOU HAVE LIVED OUTSIDE OF THE
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS VETTING IS REQUIRED FROM
THAT COUNTRY.
